"There are two ways that people navigate – innate sense of direction or by visual milestones in the environment. "

"The designer needs to constantly question the experience they are creating, and to recognize the message that a user would be taking away from the experiences along this path of travel: Am I cared for? Is there connection with the city and life of the place? Do I feel safe? Was that experience easy?"

"Simultaneously, the establishment of visual milestones where a user cannot have connection with exterior context must be equally effective in supporting intuitive navigation. In this context, reliance on signage alone can be thought of as a demonstration of failure. The environment should reveal to its users how to intuitively use it."
