Biophilia is the human need to connect and have an affiliation with nature. In order to incorporate this into facilities, designers used natural materials, natural light, nature views vegetation, texture and art to build a natural environment. Studies have proven that nature in medical setting improves healing. It reduces stress and creates a nurturing, content environment for patients, facility and visitors.

Hospitals have reported that after the implementation of biophilia, post-operative recovery has decreased and the use of medication has also decreased. This is because mental well-being has increased in patients allowing them to feel more comfortable and motivated.
