Focus on Code

Computer science and Engineering students are the highest paid graduates. There is an industry demand for coding jobs than ever before. 2019 is the year for educators to implement coding into their curriculum. At this point, it has become a skill that will set students apart from their competition and further their education. Steve Jobs said, “I think everybody in this country should learn how to program a computer, because it teaches you how to think.”

Teaching our Teachers

In the last few years, STEM education has become a compelling topic. Though, the teachers teaching such lessons most likely didn’t go to school with STEM in their curriculum. It’s important for professors and educators to become fluent in STEM and continue to learn with the adapting changes in technology.

STEM in Other Subjects

A way to have student adapt well with STEM and become accustom to it in the ways the rest of the world has been, is to try implementing it into all subjects. Integrating science, technology, engineering and math in subjects that aren’t science, technology, engineering and math is a productive way to show students that everything is connected. Education that is well-rounded in all areas can all strengthen their skills.

Making Time for Play

Researchers at Stanford University have reports that too much homework can use students to lack in development of life skills. With primary school children, many school are making an effort to send students home with less homework in order to give them a chance to be kids. For higher education this can also be applied, Professor should has well take time to incorporate student’s lives into their assignments by making them more life skill based.

Project-based Learning

Going off of the idea of life skills being integrated into homework, the jump is first staring with in class assignments. Schools are trying to introduce authentic problems in order to allow students to use outside knowledge to solve them. This hands on learning gives students the experience of cross-learning and collaboration.
