Personalized learning is described as “tailoring learning for each student’s strength, needs, and interests…to provide flexibility and supports to ensure mastery of the highest standards possible.” Dr. Monica Burns, a curriculum and educational technology consultant mentions that student engagement is the core of personalized learning. It’s important to listen to what students are excited about by looking for their needs and support those with flexible environments.

Cross-curricular connections needs to happen in order to make personalized learning as successful as it can be. Mapping out school-wide goals with thematic exploration, school districts can create standards connections. Resources should be designed for the liking of individual students. Burns tells school leaders that personalized learning can be infused in all different ways, especially within technology.
